Attractions in Lexington

Located at the heart of the Kentucky bluegrass horse region, Lexington offers the visitor history, science, the arts, and thoroughbred horses.

The Kentucky Horsepark is the only facility of its kind in the world. It offers visitors a look at a working horse farm, horse related exhibits, and educational opportunities. Located on 1,200 acres, this horse park has two museums, theaters and over fifty breeds of horses for visitors to see.

The University of Kentucky offers several on campus museums for visitors to explore. The William S Webb Museum of Anthropology, the University of Kentucky Art Museum, and the University of Kentucky Basketball Museum are all located right on campus.

Explorium of Lexington is a children’s museum located in Victorian Square in Lexington. It offers hands-on learning experiences in the three-floor museum containing nine exciting discovery zones. Permanent exhibits include Healthy Bodies, Photo Booth of the Future, Passport to the World, and Flight Simulator. Children and parents alike will enjoy this interactive museum.

Aviation Museum of Kentucky, located at the Bluegrass Airport in Lexington, has 12,000 square feet of aviation displays, a gift shop, library, and restoration area. This museum is a fantastic place to see both restored historic airplanes and modern examples.

Lexington Cemetery was founded in 1848-1849 during a time of a deadly cholera epidemic. The cemetery offers a quiet place to bird watch and learn about the history of Lexington. Reading the stones can give real insight into the cultural history of the area. The cholera related graves rival the number of graves where Confederate and Union soldiers are buried.

Alltech's Lexington Brewing Company offers tours of the brewery where award-winning beers are produced. Located in downtown Lexington, the brewery has been in operation since 2000.

The Downtown Arts Center and ArtsPlace, operated by LexArts, offer the community and visitors a full range of visual and performing arts. Housed within the Downtown Arts Center are a restaurant, the Ann Tower Gallery and a 250-seat theater.
